A BELLY FULL OF LAUGHS.
Review by Gillian Powell.

What a half-term treat to enjoy a colourful helping of Charlie And The Jelly Factory at Taunton's Brewhouse Theatre. From the moment Charlie Chase bounded on stage, he had his young audience eating out of the palm of his hand as he romped around like a three-year-old who had swallowed too many blue smarties. This was a man who could relate to children all right - he engaged with them, he liked them and made them laugh without once condescending into "children's entertainer" mode. Children clearly know and understand when they are being patronised, but in this show they were treated with respect as serious consumers of infant humour.
With songs and dances, the occasional drenching, cream pies in the face and handfuls of jelly babies dished out to the audience, this show had only basic ingredients and two performers, yet it shone with vigour and spontaneity. I overheard numerous parents praising the show as one of the best children's productions at the Brewhouse for some time. Almost by accident it exceeded all expectations.
